Valuable ways a zoned heating system can improve your life

By letting you control your home temperatures on a room-by-room basis, a zoned heating system gives you the perfect blend of comfort and convenience. We’ve broken down how these systems work and how they can benefit you below

Zoned heating

What is zoned heating?

To put it simply, zoned heating allows you to divide your home into “zones”, enabling you to set different temperatures in different areas. Using a series of thermostats zoning your heating system allows your boiler to deliver varying amounts of heat to different areas of your home. An example of this is if you like a very warm living room, but prefer your bedroom a few degrees cooler, you can individually control the temperatures of these rooms with a zoned system.

How does zoned heating work?

Your heating system can be zoned with ‘zone valves’ and a programmable thermostat (You may also choose to use a smart thermostat) which needs planning at the point of installing your heating system. The temperature of each zone is set by the programmable thermostat and when the thermostat calls for heat it sends a message to the zone valve which in turn opens and tells the boiler to turn on allowing you to heat each zone individually. If you want to zone your existing heating system without running new pipework and installing multiple zone valves you can purchase smart TRVs that allow you to control the temperature of each radiator individually and dictate the days and times you want individual radiators to heat up. Smart TRVs talk to a central hub which tells the boiler when to turn on and allows the hot water to only flow through the radiators that call for heat.

Why you’ll want a zoned heating system in your home

  • Customisable comfort

Everyone has temperature preferences. While some people might like it cooler indoors, others may prefer it warmer. With zoned heating, you can customise temperatures across your house to make everyone happy.

  • Energy-efficient

With zoned heating, you don’t have to waste energy heating your whole house just to make one area warmer. Instead, you only use the energy required to heat the required zones.

  • Ultimate Convenience

The days of having to trek to a different floor just to turn up the heat are gone, With a zoned system, you’ll have multiple thermostats at your disposal, each one designed to control a different area of your home. So, if you’re upstairs and start to get a bit chilly, simply adjust the thermostat that controls that zone. You’ll warm up in no time and you won’t affect the temperature anywhere else in the house. You could also consider upgrading to a smart thermostat, that way you don’t even need to get up to adjust the temperature, you can do it straight from your smartphone!
